Don’t Miss What’s “Happening” at Lake Flower Landing
This hard-hitting French film, Golden Lion award-winner for best picture at the 2021 Venice Film Festival, shows what life was like before abortion was legal.
The Abortion Access Committee of Adirondack Voters for Change presents the new feature film “Happening” at Lake Flower Landing, 421 Lake Flower Ave., Saranac Lake Tuesday, 8/2, at 7 pm. Based on a true story, the movie takes place in the 1960s when abortion and contraception were illegal in France and anyone who underwent, or helped someone get, an abortion faced imprisonment.
Immediately following the screening will be a panel discussion by Tess Barker, CEO of Planned Parenthood of the North Country, Dr. Eve Burns, Dr. James Pate and moderator Dr. Dorothy Federman.
In French with English subtitles, “Happening,” is not rated, contains adult content and is for mature audiences only. Masks are required; a $10 donation is requested. Reservations are strongly recommended. Please RSVP by email to vfc2014ny@gmail.com if you plan to attend as seating is very limited.

Members of Adirondack Shakespeare Company come to The Sembrich for this immersive performance specially curated for The Sembrich’s landscapes and waterscapes, performed progressively in different locales on the property with seating prearranged in each location.
This year’s offering, entitled “Merry Wars,” takes its cue from Much Ado About Nothing and a line about Benedict and Beatrice (“they never meet but there’s a skirmish of wit between them.”) Follow the travails and antics of a broad range of the Bard’s characters through a series of skirmishes, some verbal, others physical, featuring, in addition to Much Ado, scenes from Twelfth Night, Taming of the Shrew, and King Lear.
