Meadowmount School of Music Awards the Inaugural $50,000 Gurrena Fellowship to Cellist Sydney Lee
Meadowmount School of Music, the summer program for young string players founded by legendary violin teacher Ivan Galamian in Westport, NY, that has helped mold some of the world’s most prominent musicians, has awarded its inaugural Gurrena Fellowship, worth $50,000, to 25-year-old cellist Sydney Lee. The announcement was made at the final student concert of this year’s session, on August 10, at which Lee performed Schumann’s Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 1 in A minor, Op. 105.

Adirondack Plein Air Festival
August 15 – August 20
The 14th Adirondack Plein Air Festival will start Monday Aug 15 as artists check-in and begin painting. 40 artists will be selected to attend, from all over the country, after all the registrations are juried. Artists will have 5 days to paint and then the paintings will be displayed in the Town Hall in Saranac Lake, NY. A Special Preview Party sponsored by AdkAction will be held Friday Aug 19, from 6 – 9 pm.

It’s Almost Here!
On August 19th & 20th, the Adirondack Center for Writing will present the first annual Kickass Writers Festival, featuring writers, poets, comedians, mountaineers, and more. The festival will take place across various locations all over Saranac Lake and will include readings, workshops, talks, publishing programs, special performances, a book fair, speed dating, and more. The Kickass Writers Festival celebrates how writing and storytelling–in all of their forms–are essential to art, entertainment, and social change.

Bookstore Plus Monday Morning Storytime
Monday Aug 15 2022 10 to 11 am
Our storyteller reads to the curious listeners and then guides them through a themed, fun craft activity. We provide all the materials needed, for crafts time, at no cost. Join us in our children’s section!

Our theme for this Monday is Foxes!
Our storyteller will read “One Fox” by Kate Read and “How to Find a Fox” by Kate Gardner.
For our craft, we will make fox face masks!
Storytime is geared towards children ages 3 and up, but all children are welcome!

Zikina
August 17 @ 7 to 9 pm
Our Summer Concert Series brings the most FUN bands to Shepard Park for concerts on Wednesday nights in July and August. All of our concerts are FREE – so grab your family and friends and bring them to Lake George for an evening of great music!
Zikina is a group of people who came from across continents and cultures to show that despite all the forces in the world that emphasize our differences, we can come together to make something beautiful and new.
