2023 CULTURAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (CAP) APPLICATION NOW AVAILABLE!

The Essex County Arts Council is proud to administer annually the CAP Grant program providing rich cultural experiences in Essex County communities. We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity for your organization now!

Grant funds are available to any arts, historical or preservation organization; library, museum or organization providing public programs for Essex County residents.

This past year, over 40 organizations received 85-90% of their requested funding to provide a wide variety of programs in our region. The collage above celebrates this diversity, as well as our Celebrate the Arts publication.

Next Stop, Freedom: The Underground Railroad in the Adirondacks

With speaker Maureen Folk, Conversations with the Past Program
Wednesday, February 8, 2023, 7 pm, free

As slavery continued in many states in the early 1800s, a national effort to safely bring freedomseekers to Canada began. This talk will explore the role the greater Glens Falls region played in this effort and the legacy of the local Underground Railroad.

This program is free but requires a reservation, please call (518)793-2826 by Tuesday, February 7 to reserve your spot.

2023 Rotary Show!

After two years off, The Rotary Club of Saranac Lake will host its annual Winter Carnival variety show Friday, February 10th, at 7:30 pm at the Harrietstown Hall.

The Rotary Winter Carnival Show features the Carnival Royalty, High School Carnival Court dance routine, High School choral ensemble, and musical and dance acts by local students and artists. It will be a classic Carnival evening, closing with the Rotary Dancers rendition of New York, New York. All proceeds benefit local charities in Saranac Lake.

Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 online, or $25 at the door. Doors open at 6:30 pm.

Note: the show tends to sell out tickets before night of the performance. to be sure to get yours early!

Empire State Winter Games

February 2 – 5, 2023
The Largest Olympic-style Winter Sporting Event in the Northeast! All ages. All abilities.

Opening Ceremony returns to the Lake Placid Public Beach at 6pm on Thursday, February 2!

Follow the last leg of the Torch relay on
February 2:
9 am: Granville, NY (Zappone Motors)
12 noon: Ticonderoga, NY (Community Bank)
3 pm: Tupper Lake, NY (Community Bank); 4 pm: Lake Placid, NY (Community Bank)

The Empire State Winter Games is a community-driven event, courtesy of a partnership between the Adirondack Sports Council (ADKSC); the towns of North Elba, Wilmington, Tupper Lake, Harrietstown, and Brighton; the villages of Lake Placid, Tupper Lake, Paul Smiths, Wilmington, and Saranac Lake; the counties of Essex and Franklin; Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism (ROOST) and the New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA).
