Adirondack Center for Writing
The Poetry Machine Has a New Home!
Find it throughout July at Otto’s Abode, a general store in St. Lawrence County!
Pay attention the next time you’re in the grocery store, diner, restroom, or your local gas station… you might encounter one of ACW’s Machines! In collaboration with Visiting Writer Erin Dorney, we’re repurposing a number of machines to distribute poems and other writing throughout the Adirondack region.

Inside the Poetry Machine are 10 different poems. Each one features a unique style of poetry, including haiku, cento, epistolary, list, ode, ekphrasis, prose poem, how-to, erasure, and cut-up. We’re excited to feature work by local writers!
Interested in hosting the Poetry Machine in your community? Fill out the form HERE and let us know! We are always on the lookout for new North Country location suggestions.

Joseph W. Zarzynski to give talk and sign books
Fort William Henry’s Sutler Shoppe
Saturday, July 15, 11 am
Maritime archaeologist and author, Joseph W. Zarzynski, will give a talk and sign copies of his book, Ghost Fleet Awakened–Lake George’s Sunken Bateaux of 1758 (SUNY Press), at Fort William Henry Museum.
The book explores the underwater archaeological investigation and history of the lake’s bateau-class warships. These 25 to 35 ft. long watercraft were used by both the British and French during the French & Indian War (1755–1763). Over 40 British bateau shipwrecks lie in the depths of Lake George.
The talk is free, open to the public, and will be held in the Sutler Shoppe of Fort William Henry Museum. Copies of this book and some of the other books by Mr. Zarzynski will be available to purchase.
The author will sign copies of his book until 1 pm.
