Conversations with the Past with Dr. Hadley Kruczek-Aaron

SUNY Potsdam archaeologist Dr. Hadley Kruczek-Aaron will share a behind-the-scenes look at the archaeological research project featured in the documentary Searching for Timbuctoo (dir. Paul Miller). She will highlight the stories and experiences of the Black families who came to the Adirondacks to establish a 19th-century farming settlement known as Timbuctoo. She will describe the discoveries made, lessons learned, and questions that remain in the decades-long search for sites associated with this community, which was formed to create opportunity, fight for racial justice, and change American history in the process.

Here and There

Friday, February 23 – Friday, March 29
Opening Reception Friday, February 23, 5 pm
Closing Reception Friday, March 29, 5 pm

Here & There is a group show of ten regionally and nationally known artists. The theme of Here & There is explored in each artist’s selection of works, interpreted literally or metaphorically; some pieces are inspired by motifs or scenes close by, while other pieces are inspired by subjects or concepts farther afield. The works in the exhibit offer visitors to the gallery a variety of genres, stylistic approaches and mediums to take in. Each artist demonstrates a recognizable artistic voice, honed after years of devotion to their art practice.

The artists exhibiting are: painters Susan Beadle (acrylic), Eden Compton (gouache and oil), Cindi Handy (watercolor), Fred Holman (oil), Ann Larsen (oil), photographer Gary Larsen, sculptor Ronn Mattia, painters Jill Murphy (oil), Pamela Stendardi (watercolor and ink), and Diane Swanson (watercolor) .
