UnCommon at Tahawus

Friday, May 17 through Saturday, June 22, 2024
Opening Reception Friday, May 17, 5 – 7 pm. Free, but RSVP is encouraged, 646-734-7151.

UnCommon at Tahawus is a diverse and divergent group of three artists who showcase their unique perspectives at the Tahawus Gallery, in Au Sable Forks.

With a diverse range of artistic styles and backgrounds, visitors can expect to be transported into different realms of creativity—from the tranquility of natural scenes to the depths of abstract expressionism and fantasy.

Harris Billeci is a multimedia visual artist and photographer from the Mid-Hudson Valley. A recent BFA graduate from Ithaca College, their work is textural, nature oriented, and introspective. Recent projects include photographic composites, collages, and unconventional methods of making prints.
Dan Hausner, photographer and woodworker from Saranac Lake, depicts mostly rural and natural scenes in a range of styles and subject matter. The handmade wood frames are all designed and built by the artist. His work covers a broad range from landscapes and rural scenes to abstracts.
Gilles Lamarche, from Au Sable Forks and Montreal, creates artworks in acrylics, oils, watercolors; canvas, paper, wood; portraits and figures, barns and fields, landscapes, mountains and rivers, abstracts and fantasy. His teaching and design journey has led him from New York City, to Florida, to the Adirondacks, and Canada.

Registration is open for summer camps!

ACW is offering two awesome summer camps this year, one for teens (age 13-18) and one for kids (age 9 – 12). Keep your kids creative this summer as they learn new skills, meet new friends, and make lasting memories.

Creating Fictional Worlds
Over the course of three class meetings on July 8, 10, and 12, students will explore how to create a compelling fictional world. No need to have a world or story in mind before the class begins – the course will begin with some imaginative writing exercises and group brainstorming, and move into exercises that guide writers through map-sketching (think Tolkien!), writing origin stories, character creation, and more!

Learn more and register HERE.

Story Publishing Camp
Students will write and edit their own creative writing pieces and design original books for distribution.

Students in ACW’s week-long Story Publishing Camp will explore the fundamentals of narrative (characters, plot, setting, and more) and draft an original multi-page creative writing piece with the help of YA author Rebecca Donnelly. Students will then learn the technical skills to produce polished works of prose as well as design, lay-out, print, copy, and bind their own original book.
