Indigenous Women’s trade through the 18th century Adirondacks
By MAEVE KANE
ADIRONDACK HISTORY MUSEUM
Elizabethtown, NY
AUGUST 1 @ 7 pm
This talk discusses the Indigenous women who conducted trade through the Adirondacks, between Albany, Montreal and Haudenosaunee territories, from the 16th century; the things they bought and carried, and what it means for Haudenosaunee sovereignty and the right to free travel in the 21st century.

Historian Kane demonstrates that Haudenosaunee women used clothing and trade to protect their nations’ identity in the face of American colonial pressures to assimilate and disappear. Kane is Professor of History at the University at Albany, and co-author of a new textbook on American women’s history. She is also part of a new podcast on the American Revolution, “Worlds Turned Upside Down.”
Summer Lecture Series. Members are Free. Doors open at 6:30.

Sidewalk Signing with Michael Burns
Saturday, August 3, 2024, 1 – 3 pm
The Bookstore Plus is pleased to host author, Michael Burns to autograph copies of his new book Nervous Rex.
“We all have a little anxiety and worry, but what is the son of the meanest, baddest dinosaur to do when it gets the best of him?” Nervous Rex is a charming tale that will help children recognize their feelings and give them strategies for when they are feeling overwhelmed.
Michael Burns is an author and educator from Guilderland, NY. Nervous Rex was born when his daughter Lily asked him to draw with her, which makes this book so special. Michael hopes that Nervous Rex fosters children’s understanding of their mental health, helping them recognize how they feel and find strategies to cope with their anxiety. He hopes that you enjoy reading this book as much as he did creating it.
