Living With Mountains
A Weekend of Indigenous Music & Culture Overnight Program
Friday, August 9 thru
Sunday, August 11, 2024
Through traditional storytelling, history, music, and outdoor activities, this weekend will provide an immersive, informative, and fun exploration—for all ages—of the rich Native heritage of those First People who’ve lived with the mountains for countless generations.
One of the myths about the Adirondacks, still believed by many to this day, is that the region was an uninhabited wilderness before the coming of Europeans. However, indigenous people, Mohican, Haudenosauneee (Iroquois), and Abenaki, have always been, and still are, important parts of the Adirondack story. Join us for a weekend exploring their continuing cultures.
Activities will include presentations, immersive opportunities, gathering circles, and more.

Summer Concert Series
Quickstep, Featuring John Kirk and Trish Miller
Wednesday, August 7, 2024, 7:15 – 8:15 pm
Fiddle tunes, folksongs and fancy footwork will be featured from this acoustic duet—John Kirk is the primary vocalist and instrumental wizard on fiddle mandolin & more. Trish Miller plays banjo, guitar and provides fancy footwork with percussive dance steps. Together, this married couple has been working and teaching in upstate New York for over three decades. They present traditional tunes and witty songs with unique arrangements and warm clear vocals.
Old time music is the basis for their repertoire, but they also like to mix in some originals, Celtic, early country songs, humorous selections and Appalachian clog dancing. Many songs and tunes are rooted in the local lore of the northeast woodlands. Their story-telling songs and poetic pieces make their shows fine entertainment for all ages.
