Adirondack A&E e-News # 430
A Message to Our ADK A&E Subscribers…
Because you, our subscribers, are key to the operation of Adirondack A&E, we want to give you a heads up about what’s going on behind the scenes that you should know about on a couple of levels.
We were notified at the end of July—totally out of the blue—that the email company we had been using would be “no longer available” after August 30 (this Friday).
The company, “MadMimi,” was the same company used by our sister news service Jay Community News since 2007, so it was a natural ft when we started ADK A&E three years ago.
MadMimi was purchased by GoDaddy in 2014. For 10 years GoDaddy ran MadMimi without any modifications, but now has chosen to shut it down.
We’ve had to scramble to find a new email marketing company without very much notice, and we think we have—a company called AWeber. We have “migrated” our databases over and our wonderful web guru, Steve Suloff, has helped reintegrate the ADK A&E website and the emails.
So, two points to be made:
This is costing a significant chunk of change. The new company is about three times as expensive as MadMimi was, and the move to AWeber has also cost a bundle in fees and contracting services, not to even mention our time involved. We (Beth and Tim) are making up the difference in the short term, but we’ll say more about it during our fundraising campaign this autumn.
For now, we just want to ask you to bear with us as we get the new system working. There are many moving parts here, and a lot for us to learn on the fly, so if there are hiccups over the next week or so, or if the ADK A&E e-News comes out late, or upside down—well, we’re working on it.
And we so appreciate your patience as we do!
Beth and Tim

Adirondack Artists Guild Presents
Winter Spring Summer Fall
New watercolor paintings by Jacqueline Altman
Friday, September 6 through September 30.
Opening reception Friday, September 6, 5 – 7
The lyrics to “You’ve Got a Friend,” written by Carole King, remind Jacqueline of her relationship to viewing art as well as creating it. Her new exhibit,’Winter Spring Summer Fall,” includes paintings done throughout the past year.

“No matter the season, revisiting a particular landscape or work of art is like visiting with an old friend,” she writes. ”It feels good to see them again, and a quiet, comfortable dialogue may ensue between a familiar subject and me. Sometimes a new approach presents itself. ‘All you need to do is call’ opens me to new possibilities. The works in this show range from vivid colors and active brushwork, using a variety of watercolor media and surfaces, to my more traditional approach to plein air Adirondack landscapes.”

Climate’s Shipwreck Ballad by Robin Lasser & Transmutation Traces by Marguerite Perret
Through December 9, 2024,
Opening reception Thursday, August 29, 4 – 6 pm, Plattsburgh State Gospel Choir at 5 pm
Did you know that here are 300 wrecks below the waters of Plattsburgh’s Lake Champlain, as well as 300 species of birds, flying above, utilizing the lake as habitat? Lake Champlain’s shipwreck burial ground serves as a timeline, a mariner archive of the industrial revolution to the present demarcating the era responsible for the climate crisis profoundly affecting our shared global commons, water. This exhibition features room-size immersive video projections, musical compositions, large-scale photographs and sculpture that are all inspired by faculty research occurring in the Lake Champlain Research Institute and The SUNY Plattsburgh Center for Earth & Environmental Sciences.
