Chien-Kim-Watkins Trio

Sunday, September 22, 3 pm

It has been seven years since violinist Soovin Kim (Paganini International Competition) and pianist Gloria Chien (Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center) last appeared on the Hill and Hollow Music stage. Now these extraordinary virtuoso artists, who happen to be married, have joined together with the renowned cellist Paul Watkins (Emerson Quartet) to form one of the most exciting and sought-after chamber ensembles performing today.

Their program will feature three significant works for piano, violin, and cello: Pierre Jalbert’s Piano Trio No. 2 (2014); Robert Schumann’s Piano Trio No. 1 in D Minor, Op. 63 (1847); and Maurice Ravel’s Piano Trio in A Minor (1914). The Cure: An Adirondack Story

Saturday, September 21 – Saturday, September, 28, various locations

The Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts (ALCA) presents the world premiere play The Cure: An Adirondack Story by Canton, NY, playwright Frederic Glover, featuring a cast and crew from across the North Country.

The show will run Sept. 21-28, opening at the Arts Center and touring to venues across the Adirondacks as the final production of the 2024 ADK LAKES Theatre Festival.

Set during the summer of 1936 and earlier, The Cure: An Adirondack Story spotlights events both fictional and historical in Saranac Lake, NY. Margaret, a writer from New York City, is seeking “the cure” for her case of tuberculosis at the famous Saranac Lake sanatarium. Her story intertwines with the life and struggles of Dr. Edward Trudeau, a driven, deeply compassionate man who devoted himself to finding a cure for the dreaded disease in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The stories of Margaret and Dr. Trudeau combine to celebrate the importance of community in healing and the many sides of the natural world while emphasizing the struggle to transcend a deadly pandemic.
