Piotr Barcz Trio

Saturday, September 21, 7 pm

Come and enjoy the Piotr Barcz Trio! They will play a variety of swing, jazz, ragtime, and stride with Piotr on piano Chris Stokes on bass, and Russ Bailey on drums.

Originally from Poland, Piotr has traveled between and lived in both the USA and Europe all of his life. He initially played blues and ragtime guitar, then drums, but over time, piano has become his greatest love and main instrument. His repertoire comes almost exclusively from the first half of the 20th century, and includes swing, jazz, ragtime, and stride. He draws inspiration from Scott Joplin, Teddy, Wilson, Willie “the lion“ Smith and many other great players – however he arranges his own interpretations of standard tunes and also composes often spontaneously. His style and arrangements are very unique as he is entirely self taught, and plays only by ear, which has allowed him to become an exciting improviser. His concerts often include highly entertaining and informative stories that flow between the tunes, as he possesses a vast knowledge of the music, composers, and pieces he plays.

Join us for an extraordinary evening! Suggested donation: $10.

The Adirondack Center for Writing Presents

It’s Called Rhetoric, with Jerry McGovern

Thursday, September 26, 6:30 pm

This public speaking workshop is designed to help attendees become more critical listeners and effective speakers. It is free and open to all experience levels; teens are welcome alongside adults. Learn more and register for this event HERE.

“To get our vote, today’s politicians give speeches almost every day,” says Jerry McGovern. “How can we judge the truth of what they say? In this workshop, we’ll explore the principles of rhetoric which give us the tools to analyze these speeches and find the truth.”

Jerry McGovern was an instructor in the SUNY Plattsburgh Communications Department for more than 30 years. He taught Public Speaking, Argumentation/Critical Thinking and Small Group Communication. He also writes reviews of books relevant to Adirondack audiences for the “Read in the Blue Line” column for the Adirondack Daily Enterprise.

September 27, 2024,6:30 – 8 pm

Back by popular demand, join Britt from ADKArtRise in Saranac Lake for an evening of glass etching. ADK ArtRise is a creative outlet for people of all ages and abilities to find joy in the act of making. We offer fun and educational art classes & workshops.

Enjoy a night out at the museum—bring a friend, a spouse, a family member, or come alone to meet somebody new! We will be creating our own stencils and then using an acid etch paste to permanently decorate a drinking glass. Choose between a mug, a wine glass, a rocks glass or a pint glass. We will be utilizing X-acto blades to create our stencils, so this class is only for those 18 and older.
