Adirondack A&E e-News # 442

ADK A&E Fundraising Appeal

Thank you to the ADK A&E subscribers who have responded to our fundraising appeal with both your donations and kind words. You do indeed inspire us.

If you haven’t yet made a donation, would you consider doing so now?

While the ADK A&E e-News is free to receive and the website’s Event calendar also costs nothing to upload to or to view, both cost significant time and money to produce. And those costs jumped up when we had to quickly change to a new email delivery company (read the sad story HERE).

Your donation helps us to defray our costs and to give us a modicum of compensation for the many hours of work we put into producing the ADK A&E e-News and maintaining the website, including the Event calendar, the Directory and the archived issues of the e-News.

You can make a secure online donation HERE.

Or, if you prefer, you can send a check to ADK A&E, PO Box 422, Jay, NY 12941.

If your budget is tight these days, perhaps you might consider making a monthly donation of a modest amount; that’s an easy option to set up when donating online and spreads your donation out over any term you wish.

Whatever amount you can give, we appreciate your support—thank you!

All the best,

Beth and Tim

The Chapman Museum Presents

Glen Street, 1880s

Through Sunday, December 1, 2024

When Seneca Ray Stoddard (1843-1917) moved to Glens Falls in the 1860s, the village was teeming with activity. Two decades later, this was still the case, with local industries shipping goods along the Feeder Canal and new commercial businesses springing up along both sides of Glen Street.

Glen Street has served as the heart of Glens Falls since the village was settled. In the early 1880s, the unpaved street was grooved by carriage travel, the first trolley tracks wouldn’t be laid until the 1890s. The photographs in this exhibit show local businesses, Crandall Block, the original Glens Falls Insurance Company building, the Rockwell House, the fire of 1884, and a glimpse of the day-to-day activities along the village thoroughfare.
