The Art of Memory
A solo exhibition by Anastasia Osolin
Friday, October 4 – Saturday, November 2
Opening reception Friday, October 4, 5 – 8 pm
The Strand Center for the Arts will host The Art of Memory, a solo exhibition featuring the collage and assemblage worksof Anastasia Osolin.
Osolin creates her artworks from a wide variety of images and found objects gathered from flea markets, yard sales, old books, antique shops or the occasional garbage dump. She sometimes acquires her materials quite literally from the ground during her daily walks in and around Saranac Lake, N.Y.
Drawing inspiration from the history of science and astronomy, mysticism, art history, Victorian ephemera and industrial decay (i.e. just about anything old and rusty), Osolin is an avid recycler, repurposer, and collector of curiosities. She enjoys the serendipity of rooting around and allowing herself to be surprised and inspired by whatever she happens to find.

Wells Memorial Library Presents
A River Flows Through
Explore and Create with Martha Gallagher
Wednesday, October 9, 2 PM – 3:30 pm, Free
“I love to sit, stand, be by the river that runs by my home. Even with the ongoing damage from Irene and other high-water events, I still find it peaceful – and incredibly inspiring!” ~ Martha Gallagher
Join musician/artist Martha Gallagher for this creative exploration mini-retreat. Enjoy listening to live music—and singing together. Release stagnancy in body and mind; let creativity flow with authentic dance.
Through imagery and spoken word relish the beauty, power and mystery of how rivers flow—be they real rivers or metaphorical rivers—of emotions, connections, people, places; what flows through your life.
Create your own personal poetry—express, ponder, imagine, create—in a form of poetry that is simple, accessible, yet delightful, pithy, fun, and expressive.
Your poetry may become your “refrigerator magnet” inspiration, daily mantra, a quencher of your creative thirst or simply mark a really lovely moment in time that you gave yourself.
