NorthWind Fine Arts Presents
Exhibit by Heidi Gutersloh
NorthWind Fine Arts for their October exhibit, the representational work and still life oil paintings of founding member Heidi Gutersloh.
“As long as I have been painting, I have always been a realistic artist. Some people may say ‘you’re just painting what is there.’ That may be so, but isn’t that true of any painting of anything…person, place or thing? It’s all interpretive.”
“While placing in the smallest details with the smallest of brushes, blending the truest of colors or making an item appear to come out of the canvas give me excitement… when someone says my paintings remind me of days fishing with my Dad, the boathouse we had on a lake while growing up, or my pet dog who is long gone, those are the things that make my love of painting complete.
And, yes, when they shed tears, and some do, I know my work has made a true connection. Now, that’s worth it!”
“Evoking emotions from people is the perfect compliment to my artwork.”

Japanese Zen Garden Tour
Thursday, October 10, 1 – 2:30 pm
The North Country Japanese Zen Garden was constructed in 2008 after a study-trip by students and faculty to Kyoto, Japan. The goal of the trip was to study famous Zen temple gardens, bring back design ideas, and create a garden inspired by Buddhist principles and reflect the spirit of the unique North Country environment.
There will be a tour of the history and elements of the garden, with an explanation of the different religious elements within the design, and how one might see the garden in the context of Buddhist practice. The second half of the tour is a hands-on activity where participants will make their own ema or votive tablet which they can leave in the garden to elicit good luck.
