Hysterical Beasts

A New Work of Theatre at Upper Jay Art Center

November 7 – 16 (7 pm, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays)*

Hysterical Beasts is an original piece of theatre utilizing dance, music, storytelling, and puppetry to explore the ways in which the “Wild Woman” archetype appears in our cultural (and personal) narratives. Part of our New Work in the North Country series, this production was developed at Upper Jay Art Center through collaboration with an ensemble of local performers. We invite you to be a part of the process by being one of the first audiences to see this bold new work and engage in creative feedback.

Adirondack Center for Writing Presents

Nature Governance in the Adirondacks with Talking Rivers

Thursday, November 7, 6 pm

What if Nature was on the Board of Directors of every nonprofit in the Adirondacks? What if businesses listened to the voice of ecosystems before making decisions that would impact them? Businesses and nonprofits from the Netherlands to the Bahamas are striving to act in a respectful way with the ecosystems that comprise their homes, making sure the ecosystem is considered in the decision making process.

Join Blake Lavia & Tzintzun Aguilar-Izzo from Talking Rivers as they return to ACW for an open conversation on “Nature Governance” and how its central tenets could be applied here in the Adirondacks through our nonprofits, businesses, and municipalities. Together we can meet Nature’s needs and respect the rights of all. This round-table discussion is free and open to all.

Find out more and register HERE.

In Case You Missed It

“Artist Margaret Jacobs wants you to consider the Emerald Ash Borer”

Artist Margaret Jacobs grew up in Ogdensburg and is a member of the Akwesasne Mohawk tribe. She incorporates aspects of her Indigenous identity into her sculpture and jewelry. One of Jacobs’ sculptures is now in a permanent exhibit at the Adirondack Experience: the Museum at Blue Mountain Lake. The sculpture is made of steel and represents her unique take on the iconic Adirondack packbasket.

North Country Public Radio’s Julia Botero interviews Artist Margaret Jacobs in this fascinating piece you can read or listen to HERE.
