The Quilt Block Challenge is back!

Quilters, fiber artists, and beginners alike are invited to take part in this popular Adirondack Folk School staple. To celebrate our classes, students, instructors, and friendships made through the school, this year’s theme is “HERE’S TO 15 YEARS!”

Participants will be given a packet of 3 fabrics which must be incorporated into your block and illustrate the —think of your favorite course, a great event you’ve participated in, something new you learned at AFS or perhaps even a friend you made in class. Once completed, blocks will be judged, and ribbons will be awarded. After blocks have been exhibited, they will be made into a quilt that will be raffled with some proceeds going to the AFS Scholarship Fund.

Registration forms and block packets will be available at AFS beginning February 7. If you’d like to participate but live out of town, give us a call at 518-696-2400 and we will send a packet out to you!

Join us in celebrating these distinguished artists who have spent decades building the following programs in the Department of Art & Design: Printmaking, Photography and Painting. This exhibit collectively represents almost 90 years of professional service in the arts and to the State University of New York Plattsburgh.

Adirondack Center for Writing announces

Our Teen Writing Lounge is back!

Huge thanks to the Saranac Lake Rotary for their generous support of funds and volunteers, and to the amazing teens, we affectionately refer to as “ACW kids,” who worked so hard to transform our basement Teen Writing Lounge into the incredible space it is now!

The space had been damaged by flooding a year ago but with some hard work and a creative spirit, this community worked together to create this amazing place for our youth to gather to read, write, and share their stories. THANK YOU!

Stop by and check out this amazing space. Special shoutout goes to the ENTIRE Audlin family for all of their work making this happen.

You can see the before and after photos on ACW’s Instagram page HERE.

North Country School Students Present Two Plays and a Music Recital

Saturday, February 15, free and open to the pubic

The first play, Stuart Little, will begin at 5 pm and is appropriate for all ages. Following Stuart, a musical recital will take place featuring the talents of NCS’s Rock Band, solo student performances, and more. The evening will conclude at 7 pm with IMPACT, an entirely student-led performance and production.

MPACT, an annual theater program developed by and for NCS’s older students, deals with more mature themes, including many coming-of-age issues our students, their families, and friends might be facing. This year’s play hits on experiences with xenophobia, financial instability, discrimination, and heartbreak. Due to the subject matter of the play, this performance is suitable for attendees ages  12+.
