Hill and Hollow Music presents
LÚNASA
Sunday, March 9, 4 pm
Architects of a bold new Irish music landscape for more than 25 years, the renowned Irish band Lúnasa—on tour from the Emerald Isle—will perform in Plattsburgh’s historic Strand Theater.
Named for an ancient Celtic harvest festival honoring the Irish god Lugh, Lúnasa was formed in 1997 with members of some of the greatest Irish groups of the previous decade. From the start, the band’s complex arrangements and unique sound reshaped the boundaries of traditional Irish music and energized audiences the world over. An early review from Folk Roots magazine described the band as an “Irish music dream team.”

More critical acclaim followed, The Irish Echo describing the band as the “the hottest Irish acoustic band on the planet.” MOJO magazine named the band “the new gods of Irish music,” adding that “nobody since the Bothies has wielded such a thrilling rhythmic underlay.” Billboard raved that “anybody who listens can’t help but find them contagious.” Having since sold over a quarter of a million records and performed over 2,500 shows across 36 countries, Lúnasa has won multiple awards and become one of the most influential bands in the history of traditional Irish music.

A Staged Play Reading of The Thanksgiving Play
Sunday, March 9, 3 pm, Westport Heritage House
Good intentions collide with absurd assumptions in Larissa FastHorse’s wickedly funny satire, as a troupe of terminally woke teaching artists scrambles to create a pageant that somehow manages to celebrate both Turkey Day and Native American Heritage Month.
Larissa FastHorse (a member of the Sicangu Lakota tribe) is a playwright and choreographer based in Santa Monica, California. In 2023, she became the first known female Native American playwright produced on Broadway with The Thanksgiving Play at Second Stage’s Hayes Theater.
The staged reading is directed by Beth Glover and features Peter Corley, Laura Farrell, Tyler Nye, and Tara Palen.
The event is free and open to the public.

Bringing Local Glens Falls Women’s History to Life
New Book Project for Middle School Readers Announced
Inspired by an article in The Chronicle about local political women written by Diana Palmer, a new initiative is underway to celebrate the remarkable women of Glens Falls through a beautifully illustrated book designed for middle school readers.
The project started when Elizabeth Little Hogan reached out to Diana Palmer after seeing the article, realizing a shared passion for recording women’s history. Motivated by the idea of creating a lasting resource to inspire younger generations, the two spearheaded efforts to bring the stories of 50-100 notable local women to the public.
After receiving enthusiastic support from historical and women’s groups, an initial brainstorming meeting was held in October 2024, gathering volunteers from the community. The group reached a consensus to produce a book featuring short profiles—300-500 words each—of pioneering, barrier-breaking, and otherwise remarkable women tied to Glens Falls. The book will feature both living and deceased women.
The Folklife Center at Crandall Public Library and the Warren County Historical Society have partnered with the group. The Folklife Center is offering its blog as a central hub for the project’s development. Plans are also underway for a companion website that will feature expanded entries for those who want to dive deeper into the stories.
