A guided discussion of Octavia Butler’s Parable of the Sower
Two Sundays, March 23 and April 6, 5 – 7 pm
Join us for the first installment of our Counternarratives Book Club.
Butler’s 1993 novel is a classic of Afro-Futurism. Set in 2024-2025, Parable of the Sower imagines an LA ravished by wildfires and a country depleted by a pharmaceutical epidemic, with a presidential candidate who vows to “make American great again.” The narrator, Lauren, imagines something better. And she acts. She leads, she empathizes, she makes hard choices, she loves.
