Reflections: Intimate Portraits of Iconic African Americans

by Terrence Reese

Wednesday, March 26,  6 – 7:30 pm, Yokum Hall, Room 202, Artist lecture

Reception Thursday, March 27, 4 -6 pm,  Burke Gallery, Myers Building

In his series Reflections, Terrence A. Reese, also known as TAR, depicts pioneers from a variety of fields who have shaped American culture and history. A reflection of each subject resides within the composition. Featured subjects’ lives and careers have addressed fundamental political, economic and social realities of the 20th Century and beyond. Accompanying each photograph is a text by Reese that describes both the contributions of the sitters and his own anecdotal reflections about making the photograph.

Some of the noted sitters include the Reverend Jesse Jackson, Gordon Parks, Lois Mailou Jones, Russell Simmons, Charles Rangel, B.B. King and Eleanor Holmes Norton. Intimate and expansive, Reese’s sixty black and white photographs made throughout the past two decades serve to memorialize and document his iconic sitters.

Viewpoints

Now through Saturday, May 10, 2025

Viewpoints showcases works created by the Mountain Air Painters and Independent Potters, two artist communities at View.

The Mountain Air Painters (MAP) is an eclectic group of artists from Old Forge and beyond who meet weekly to paint. From May to October, the MAP group can be found painting outdoors, capturing the beauty of the Adirondacks. In the winter, they continue their weekly paint sessions at View.

View’s Independent Potters have demonstrated both skill in ceramics and a commitment to the success of View’s community pottery studio. These potters learn from one another and through classes at View. They also collaborate on multiple pottery events each year.

This exhibition unites the work of the two groups, offering a dynamic display of local talent.
