Ft. Ticonderoga Virtual Author Series Presents
Turncoat: Benedict Arnold and the Crisis of American Liberty
By Stephen Brumwell
Sunday, April 13, 2 pm, virtual
Turncoat: Benedict Arnold and the Crisis of American Liberty traces Arnold’s journey from enthusiastic support of American independence to his spectacularly traitorous acts and narrow escape. Stephen Brumwell’s research leads to an unexpected conclusion: Arnold’s mystifying betrayal was driven by a staunch conviction that America’s best interests would be served by halting the bloodshed and reuniting the fractured British Empire. Brumwell joins us less than a month away from the 250th anniversary of Arnold’s and Ethan Allen’s historic capture of Fort Ticonderoga on May 10, 1775, to explore Arnold’s contributions to the early years of the American Revolution.
Online pre-registration is required. Register by 5 pm this Friday, April 11.

Twolined Studio Presents
Saranac Lake Art & Science Series
Thursday, April 17, 6:30 pm
The second of the three planned Art & Science events, topics on April 17 will range from clay to wetlands to photography and poetry, and the evening will include a musical performance from tabla musician Alan Simon.
Speakers will be:

Michele Drozd, the co-founder and executive director of Craigardan, who will weave together the science and art behind ceramics—starting with geological origins, a brief historical “scientific/alchemy” context, and the modern day material science which allows potters to make and fire their work. Michele wants people to be intrigued with clay as a material and an art form so that they give it a try!

Saikat Chakraborty, faculty member at Paul Smith’s College teaching chemistry. When not teaching, he will often be found outdoos with his dog Moose and his camera. As an international transplant in the Adirondacks with a background in scientific education, he is able to experience the natural world in a uniquely delightful way and is passionate about sharing his outpourings with the broader community. To this end, Saikat employs expressive photography and creative writing to tell stories about the environment at the intersection of science and the arts. His images strive to be metaphors for his experiences, not documentary evidence, of being outdoors.

Keeley Jock grew up in Akwesasne, from her strong belief in the Seven Generations philosophy taught to them at a young age, it moved them to obtaining a B.S. in Environmental Science from Paul Smith’s College, with the dream of doing something bigger than herself in this world. With a keen interest in wetland ecology and botany, Keeley wrote their undergraduate thesis on Indigenous Knowledge informing EPA standard wetland assessments to help improve regulations for highly impacted/less pristine wetlands. Keeley’s talk will explore wetlands, indigenous knowledge, and the value of knowledge keepers.

Michael Galligan returns to the North Country to share his latest solo comedic performance Cloud Baby. Don’t miss this hilarious and touching performance. Cloud Baby knows weather. He feels all of it. That rainstorm the other day was totally exhausting, right? But he really wants to know: do you feel it, too? He really needs to know. Tell him now. Tell him how you feel. Faster. Cause you don’t wanna see him when he’s angry.
Cloud Baby is a solo clown show created and performed by Michael Galligan and directed by Bailey Nassetta. Their last collaboration, BANANA, performed at Cannonball in 2023. It was called a “comedic tour de force” in a 5-star review by The Interrobang in Edinburgh.
