While many 19th-century American women drew, sketched, and even painted, few were able to become professional artists, and fewer still have their work in museum collections today. Why was visual art considered a ladylike pursuit, and yet an unsuitable career for women at the same time?

PROJECT: POWER UP LAKE GEORGE

Project: Power Up Lake George, a partnership between The Village of Lake George and the Lake George Arts Project, invites artists to submit proposals to design and paint traffic signal cabinets located in the Village of Lake George with the goals of enhancing the aesthetics of the Village, extending public art to new areas and unexpected places, and introducing art to the public in a creative and inventive way.

This project is open to all local and regional artists living within a 50 mile radius of Lake George NY. Both established and emerging artists art encouraged to apply.
