Hill and Hollow Music Presents
Constantinople, performing Traversées
Ancient Music of the Middle East and Africa in a contemporary fusion
Sunday, May 4, 3 pm
Constantinople performs their acclaimed program Traversées—or in English, Crossings: A Musical Journey from the Orient to the New World Through Africa.
Constantinople’s visionary leader and setar virtuoso Kiya Tabassian has joined with renowned Senegalese griot Ablaye Cissoko on kora and voice to create a unique musical encounter and experience. Drawing on rich ancient music traditions of Persia and Senegal, Traversées animates the concept that “the whole is more than the sum of its parts.” The extraordinary percussionist Patrick Graham rounds out the trio.

Lake Placid Sinfonietta Names New Executive Director
The Lake Placid Sinfonietta is excited to announce Emily Dobmeier as the orchestra’s new executive director.
A professional clarinetist with a doctorate from the Eastman School of Music, Dobmeier brings over a decade of experience in arts management, including serving for the past eight years as vice president of operations for the Luzerne Music Center. She also serves on the Eastman Community Music School’s faculty and is principal clarinetist of the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes.
Dobmeier has long had ties to the Adirondack region, including spending summers at her family’s camp on Raquette Lake.
Dobmeier succeeds Deborah Fitts, who has been with the Sinfonietta since 1997.
“I’m thrilled to welcome someone as qualified as Emily Dobmeier as a successor, and I look forward to finding new ways to stay involved to keep the wonderful music the Sinfonietta creates alive in our community,” said Fitts.
Speaking on behalf of the Sinfonietta’s board, Baxter said, “All of us in the Sinfonietta community are so grateful for Debbie’s long tenure and service, and we are thankful that she will remain a part of the Sinfonietta family going forward.”
Dobmeier officially takes the helm as executive director on May 5 ahead of the Sinfonietta’s summer 2025 season.

The Wild Center’s Clothesline Installation Travels to Whallonsburg Grange
Saturday, May 3 – Sunday, May 11, 2025
The Wild Center is pleased to announce that a portion of The Clothesline: Food, Fiber, Air, and Soil—an installation by artist Brenda Baker—will be on display at the Whallonsburg Grange and Whitcomb’s in Essex, NY, as part of the finish line celebration for the Champlain Area Trails (CATS) Grand Hike on May 10, 2025. The installation will be on display outdoors from May 3to 11, 2025.

Originally debuted at The Wild Center in the summer of 2024, The Clothesline is an evocative tribute to New York’s agricultural workers, constructed from hundreds of donated pieces of work attire worn by those who sustain the region’s food system. The exhibit brings to life the interconnectedness of food, fiber, air, and soil, inviting viewers to reflect on the labor and environmental factors that underpin agriculture. Farming in the Champlain Valley and the area around Whallonsburg remains central to the economy and landscape, and several local farmers tell their own stories through the clothing they donated.
This event is presented in partnership with The Wild Center and the Whallonsburg Grange. For more details on The Clothesline and to view the exhibit online, visit HERE.
