2025 CAP Grant recipients announced

The Essex County Arts Council (ECAC) announces the 2025 Cultural Assistance Program (CAP) Grant recipients. In celebration of over 40 years of the CAP Program, grants in the amount of over $40,000 to support specific projects have been awarded to 56 organizations providing cultural arts experiences for Essex County residents. The CAP Grant is funded by Essex County, Stewarts Shops, and private donors.

Grant recipients are evaluated for their artistic merit and impact upon the community. “These arts and cultural organizations are the driving force that allow the arts to flourish in Essex County towns,” stated Susan Hughes, CAP Grant Administrator. “They offer a variety of art forms which collectively create the atmosphere in which we choose to live.”

A complete list of CAP Grantees and their projects can be found HERE.

The breadth of talent and creativity offered throughout the area funded by CAP grants is truly extraordinary. This year’s awardees have requested funding for projects in theatre, dance, music, exhibitions, lecture series, library programs and festivals.

ADX’s In the Adirondack Library series

Fathom, by Sophie Morelli

Monday, May 5, 2025, 7 – 8 pm, free, virtual

This collection of poems is based on Lake Placid, New York’s most well-known ghost story. In 1933, the Lady in the Lake, whose real name was Mabel Smith Douglass, took a row boat across Lake Placid and never returned. Thirty years later, almost to the day, local divers discovered her body perfectly preserved one hundred feet below the surface of the water. Her spirit has been known to haunt the famed Pulpit Rock, where her body was found.

Sophie Morelli is an Adirondack-based poet holding a bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Writing, as well as a Master’s Degree in English Education, both from SUNY Potsdam. She was an Anne Labastille resident in the fall of 2023 and has work featured with Querencia Press. Her collection Fathom is out with Bottlecap Press.
