Snowfort Books Grand Opening
Saturday, May 17, 11 am – 9 pm
A new cultural space is opening its doors in the Champlain Valley! Snowfort Books, a cozy new bookstore and community gathering spot in downtown Westport, will celebrate its grand opening with a day of festivities including food, music, literature, and family-friendly activities.
Snowfort blends small-town charm with creative energy, offering new and used books, a vibrant play area for kids, and regular cultural programming. The store’s grand opening festivities will highlight its mission: to be a welcoming hub for readers, families, and creatives in the Adirondacks and beyond.
The day begins at 11 am with a ribbon cutting in partnership with the Westport Wadhams Community Alliance (WWCA). Guests can enjoy coffee, donuts, mimosas, and quiche during the ceremony. At noon, families are invited to a children’s celebration, featuring a story hour and art-making activity with author Amy Guglielmo. Throughout the day, Snowfort will be open for bookselling and giveaways from noon to 6 pm, with food and drink including Irma’s Tamales and popsicles from King of Pops, a nod to co-founder Amy Robinson’s Atlanta roots. In the afternoon, Slow Wasps, co-founder Adam Robinson’s rock band, will play a live set at the old Skidoo Shop behind the bookstore. The celebration continues into the evening with an after-party at The Mill, another exciting new destination in Westport, and just down the street from the bookstore. The event will feature a signature cocktail and poetry readings by the Robinsons.

The Wild Life of Theodore Roosevelt
Sunday, May 18, 2025, 2 pm
Join American Historian (and year round Adirondacker) Connor Williams for The Wild Life of Theodore Roosevelt. Williams will trace Roosevelt’s lifelong relationship with nature, paying especially close attention to those moments that intersected with the Adirondack past. After approximately 45 minutes of a talk that contains equal parts historical lecture and campfire story, Williams will welcome as many questions as the audience cares to ask.
Connor Williams is a formally trained historian with more than two decades of researching, teaching, and writing about the past. A native of Saratoga County, Williams grew up visiting the Adirondacks and hiking the High Peaks. His love for nature brought him to Middlebury College for his undergraduate degree, and his love for history brought him to Dartmouth and Yale for advanced study.
