Play FULL: Petite Galerie Juried Exhibition

For our first ever juried exhibition in the Petite Galerie, we’re highlighting work that is Play FULL.

The micro gallery project was driven by joy and playfulness and we’re excited to showcase local artist’s work that engages with this theme. Maybe that looks like lots of color or silly subject matter! Let the theme Play FULL inspire you to create tiny works of art.

Submitted artwork can be 2D or 3D! The gallery space is 18”x 18” so work should be proportional. Submitted artwork must be finished upon submission. Juror Mollie Ward will select 3-5 pieces (depending on size) to be shown June 6- July 30th.

Deadline to submit is Friday May 23, 2025. Jurying will take place the week of May 26th and artists will be notified by Friday May 30th. Artwork will need to be delivered to the Strand Center for the Arts (Art Center) May 31 or June 3 – June 5.

Learn more and submit HERE.

The Chapman Museum Presents

Competitive Spirit

Stoddard Photographs Capture Friendly Competition

Through Sunday, August 10, 2025

Competitive Spirit explores the intertwined nature of social and recreational

activities for Adirondack vacationers during the Gilded Age.

From manicured croquet lawns at hotels like Kattskill House and Crosbyside on Lake George, to tennis courts at Loon Lake House and St. Hubert’s Inn, the photographs reveal how competitive games were more than just pastimes—they were social rituals that reflected broader cultural trends of the time. Croquet, introduced in England in the 1850s, offered an easygoing and accessible activity. Meanwhile, lawn tennis, which gained popularity in the 1870s and 1880s, was seen as both athletic and refined, allowing men and women to compete together in mixed doubles.
