Adirondack Artists Guild Presents
Looking: Around Town, an exhibit by Burdette Parks
Friday, June 6 through Tuesday, July 1
Opening reception Friday, June, 5 – 7 p mA year and half ago, Burdette presented an exhibit focusing on often overlooked woodland objects revealed by closer observation. This new show, using the same approach, highlights discoveries from within our historic village. Looking more closely, more carefully, or just changing perspective can render things that have become invisible through repetition fresh and exciting again. Most of the exhibit’s photos are printed in black and white, thus removing the distraction of color to focus on form and structure and to reflect the history of the village. There may be nothing in this show you haven’t seen before, probably thousands of times; but after visiting this exhibit, you might see them with fresh eyes.As a “thank you” to the village for being such a patient subject, 15% of all sales from the show will be donated to the Saranac Lake Food Bank.

Old Forge Library Presents
The Art of the Quilt
An exhibition of quilt artistry by Marie Henry
Thursday, June 5 through Saturday, June 28
Opening reception, Thursday, June 5, 5 – 7 pm
Marie Henry has been an artist in one form or another for as long as she can remember. Her earliest craft memory involves making dolls from chestnuts and forest-found materials in her native Massachusetts. At age 12, she was introduced to needlework by her great-aunt Viola, who taught her to sew by hand and machine, knit, crochet, sew buttons, and blind hems. That Christmas, Marie received her first sewing machine, a gift that would set the stage for a lifelong passion.
Initially focused on clothing, Marie developed a unique style that blended preppy and hippy aesthetics. At 20, she created her first quilt as a wedding gift, followed by baby quilts for friends and family. Despite the demands of full-time work, parenting two children, and managing a household, quilting remained a creative outlet.
