Warren County Historical Society Announces Publication

Ward G. Shippey: Adirondack Architect by Tom Lynch and Teri
Rogers

The book highlights the life and career of Glens Falls architect, Ward G. Shippey, as seen through the eyes of his grandson, Tom Lynch, who has preserved Shippey’s vast collection of architectural drawings, photographs, and history of his many signature designs throughout the Adirondacks from Glens Falls to the North County and south to the Catskills. Lynch’s co-author Teri Rogers describes Shippey’s life and influences as a man of Glens Falls, his rise as a self-taught architect who was also an artist, engineer, and inventor.

The book showcases Shippey’s love of his native surroundings and use of indigenous materials in his work. His affinity for the Adirondacks and later his substantial body of work in the Catskills shows the evolution of his personal orientation as a man of northern New York with his ability to adapt his unique architectural styling to the resort region of the Catskills in southern New York. Readers of this book who are familiar with the eastern part of the Empire State will at once recognize and enjoy the iconic Ward Shippey masterpieces that remain in today’s 21 st century landscape.

Ward G. Shippey: Adirondack Architect is available at the Warren County
Historical Society for $30, and plans are being made for additional points of sale through the region. An official book launch will be held, along with other titles published by the WCHS, on November 1, 11 am to 2 pm, at 50 Gurney Lane, Queensbury.
