The Adirondack Artists Guild presents
Photographer Mark Kurtz’s Many Faces of Whiteface
Friday, August 1 – Tuesday, September 2
Opening reception Friday, August 1, 5 – 7 pm
Gallery talk Sunday, August 17, 3 pm
In his nearly forty years of living and photographing in the Adirondacks, Mark Kurt, one of the Adirondack Artist Guild’s founding members, has had plenty of opportunity to capture the iconic Whiteface Mountain.
Using both film and digital formats, primarily in the wide—and in some cases, tall—panorama shots for which he is known, Kurtz has documented the many flanks of the mountain. One particular view will be predominantly featured in this exhibit; living within a half mile of Norman Ridge, Kurtz has returned many times to the same spot, which offers one of the more dramatic views of Whiteface.
He says, “There’s something intriguing about visiting the same location and photographing it under the many different weather and light changes we experience here in the Adirondacks. This one particular view I’ve been shooting for many years, and for quite a while I’ve wanted to put all those various ‘moods’ in one place to look at how that mountain can seem so different from one weather and light scenario to another. I can do that with this exhibit.”

Pendragon Theatre presents
Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night
Shakespeare Meets Adirondack Heart at Pendragon Theatre
Wednesday, July 30 – Saturday, August 9, 2025
Pendragon Theatre offers a fresh Adirondack‑inflected retelling of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, adapted by Michael Allen Aguirre with original music by local folk duo Blessid Dirt.
Twelfth Night is reimagined in the modern-day fictional village of Illyria Lake, nestled amid the storied Great Camps and lakeside serenity of the Adirondacks.
As Managing Director Michael Allen Aguirre—who leads Pendragon —has stated, the production aims to marry Shakespeare’s timeless themes of identity, loss, and love with authentic local flavor. His adaptation reframes Illyria as a lakeside resort‑village surrounded by pine forests and historic Camp‑style lodges, evoking the spirit of the Great Camps where the region’s cultural and artistic history took root.
Blessid Dirt, the Adirondack‑grown acoustic duo of Tereson Dupuy and Eric Pasternak, brings a haunting Americana soundtrack to the stage. Their original compositions underscore key moments—Viola’s arrival on the “shore,” Orsino’s reveries beside the water, Malvolio’s comic delirium—with lyrics steeped in lake‑life imagery and guitar melodies that echo the lapping Adirondack lakeshore.
