Lake Flower Landing presents
Helen Gillet in concert
Sunday, September 21, 4 – 6 pm
Belgian-born Helen Gillet presents a unique mix of texture, and rhythm using an acoustic cello in service to her songs. Her solo performances are enigmatic and innovative as she fabricates each song with true mastery of live looping technology. Percussive rhythms emerge by bowing, plucking, rubbing and slapping on the body of the cello. Enhanced melodies are played or sung in her haunting alto. Her mixed repertoire is commensurate with her disparate travels—French chanson of the 1940s, Belgian folk tunes sung in Walloon, a mix of rock and punk from the likes of PJ Harvey and X-Ray Spex, and her own affecting originals, which she developed while living in New Orleans.

The Lake Placid Film Festival today announced the 30 finalists selected for their 2025 “Your Shorts Are Showing” short film program. The selected short films will screen on Friday, October 31 and Saturday, November 1 as part of the 24th edition of The Adirondacks’ premier film festival. All of the short films showcase the diverse cinematic achievements of filmmakers around the globe and in Upstate New York.
Out of the thirty selected shorts, over half were shot in Upstate New York and will be eligible for the festival’s Made Upstate Award. “Adirondack Film and the Lake Placid Film Festival are committed to supporting film and television production in Upstate New York through our Made Upstate program,” says Adirondack Film’s Director of Communications, Noah Ramer. “The fact that this year’s shorts program so heavily features Upstate filmmaking is a testament to the rapid growth of film production in our region.”
