A Review of Divergent Spectrums III at Keene Arts

by James Lancel McElhinney

Divergent Spectrums III: An Art Show About the Collective Strength of Our Creative Community opened last Friday September 12 and runs through Sunday, September 21. The exhibition is sponsored by the East Branch Friends of The Arts, which describes itself as “. . . a community-based, non-profit organization dedicated to presenting and supporting the performing and visual arts in Keene and Keene Valley.”

The exhibition was curated by artist and entrepreneur foodie Zach Clemans, who earned a fine arts degree from SUNY Purchase and cooked in New York City restaurants, before a Craigardan artist residency brought him home to the Adirondacks in 2017.

Downtown Artist Cellar (DAC) Resident Poet Joins in Publication of Collaborative Collection

Jim Bourey, Resident Poet of the Downtown Artist Cellar (DAC) in Malone, has announced the release of Our Various Selves, a collaborative collection with noted poets Linda Blaskey and Jack Mackey of Delaware, and Isabelle Bohl of St. Paul, Mn (formerly of St. Regis Falls). Blaskey and Bohl have both done many public readings in the North Country.

The four met through writers’ groups in Potsdam, NY and Rehoboth Beach, DE, and became fast friends with a common goal of improving their poetry skills through collaboration. The result is Our Various Selves released this September through Cold River Press in Grass Valley, CA.

Of the book, Donald McNutt, editor emeritus of Blueline Magazine, says, “This volume collects the words of four exceptional poets whose voices are all dynamic and distinctive. In truly original ways, these poets illuminate the most vital of subjects: nature and self-awareness; the joys, challenges, and losses within all human bonds; how the past enlivens us as a continuous presence. Each poet finds beauty and poignancy in their experiences, expressing them through cadences of insight and trust—in their discoveries and ours—and always with an honesty whose edges remain unmistakable.”

Our Various Selves (ISBN:979-8-9988517-1-1) is available through the individual authors or directly from Cold River Press HERE.
