The Unlikely Thru-Hiker: An Appalachian Trail Journey

Tuesday, October 28, 7 pm

A young black man from New York City, Derick Lugo hit the Appalachian trail with an overweight backpack, a can-do attitude, and very little hiking experience. What followed were lessons on preparation, humility, race relations, and nature’s wild unpredictability. Known on the trail as Mr. Fabulous, Lugo refused to let anything squash his inner Pollyanna, persevering with humor, tenacity and an unshakable commitment to grooming that sees him from Georgia to Maine.

Derick Lugo is an adventurer, a storyteller, and author of The Unlikely Thru-Hiker, a humorous memoir of his six-month thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail. A popular speaker, Lugo has written pieces for outdoor magazines and short stories for anthologies. He will be Writer-in-Residence at Snowfort Books & Friends in Westport this fall. In addition to his work as a writer, Derick is host of the popular podcast, Unlikely Stories.

Café Murder, A Murder Mystery Dinner

Starring the Ausable Valley Central School Drama Club

Sunday, October 26, 5 – 7 pm

Rosemary Saint-John is a loud, over-the-top hypochondriac who insists she’s allergic to water. While celebrating her birthday at a restaurant with her four eccentric sisters—a hippie, a valley girl, a trucker, and a banker—she manages to irritate just about everyone. When Rosemary suddenly vanishes and is presumed murdered, the audience becomes the jury.

Was it one of her sisters? The self-proclaimed detective? The fiery French chef? The polished maître d’? The wise-cracking waiter? No one is safe from suspicion in this laugh-out-loud dinner theatre experience.

Packed with improv, audience interaction, and plenty of comedy, Café Murder is a night of fun for all ages!

Join us for a three-course meal and classic whodunnit mystery dinner show. Drinks will be available for purchase at the bar.

Seating is limited, so get your tickets HERE before it’s too late!

Artist Talk with Rena Bernstein

Thursday, October 30, 5 pm

Lapham Gallery hosts a pop up exhibition of selected works by artist Rena Bernstein.

Rena’s expressive paintings and drawings demonstrate strong composition and emotive qualities. A Holocaust survivor, Rena came to the US in 1947 at 9 years old. Unable to create her own work for years due to the effects of war in her childhood, in recent years the artist has freed herself enough from the past to be able to draw and paint again. Her body of work on display for this event is touched by her life experiences.
