Robert Louis Stevenson’s 175th Birthday Celebration

Upper Jay Art Center and Recovery Lounge presents
The Maids
Thursday, November 13 – Saturday, November 22
Join us for our Fall theatre production of The Maids by Jean Genet. Claire and Solange are sisters and servants to a wealthy young woman. Trapped in a life they didn’t ask for and can’t leave, they pass the time by impersonating their Madame. We watch as the two sisters begin to blur the lines between fantasy and reality as they roleplay their liberation. The Maids is a compelling, timely parable of class, identity, and the destructive desire to both emulate and annihilate those we idolize.
Written by Jean Genet (translated by Bernard Frechtman).
Performed by Katherine Norman, Jess Kemp, and Elyse Sinklier.
Directed by Gabrielle Schutz.

Existential Questions for the 21st Century
Sunday, November 9, 3 pm
Join us for an afternoon of absurdist apocalyptic satire at the first public reading of Sam Balzac’s original musical, Existential Questions for the 21st Century!
At Existence Con, the world’s premiere convention for doomers celebrating the end of the world, a panel of artists, anthropologists, and alien-worshippers grapple with rebel activists as humanity’s fate hangs in the balance. Then, an *actual* panel with Protect the Adirondacks, Third Act, and Public Power/DSA moderated by the Wild Center’s Jen Kretser will discuss the current state of climate and environmental activism and how you too can keep the doomers at bay.
Please email existentialquestionsmusical@gmail.com or call (518) 487-0041 to reserve your spot. This reading features mature content and is not recommended for children.
