The Adirondack Artists Guild presents
Winter Light, by Sandra Hildreth
Monday, December , 2025 – Thursday, January 1, 2026
Opening reception Friday, December 12, 5 – 7 pm
What is “Winter Light”? It’s when the snow-covered mountains turn magenta with the last rays of the setting sun. It’s when the dark forest is suddenly bright as beams of light cut through the bare trees and reflect off the snow. It’s when the pink and gold of a brilliant sunrise pours color onto ice, snow, and open water. And it is on the crisp, frigid, bright days when intense blue shadows rake across the blanketed ground.
The oil paintings in Winter Light are by longtime member Sandra Hildreth.
Spending much of the year outdoors doing plein air paintings, which often capture the passage of time over the course of the hours it takes to complete a painting, Hildreth completed most of the paintings in this exhibit in her studio. This allowed her more time to study and focus on the unique qualities of light in the Adirondack winter. The paintings also illustrate the many different colors of snow other than brilliant white (and NOT dirty brown!).

Adirondack Voters for Change presents
Broken Circles, by Mac MacDevitt
Thru December 31, 2025
The Project is centered on the large scale (6 ft high x 8 ft long) Broken Circle sculpture which envisions the trusted rights and processes supporting our constitutional democracy as connected in a reinforcing circle. The Broken Circle sculpture is built with eight connectors starting with the Preamble to the Constitution and featuring 14 rights and processes—each with a warning label suggesting their special need for protection.
The brokenness of the circle and the text on the connectors outline the artist’s concerns that our constitutional democracy is vulnerable to assault and threatened with destruction in today’s political climate.
The interactive sculpture will be on display at the Hub in Saranac Lake until the end of the year for visitors to view and to add their own personal statements to the sculpture.
