The Adirondack Experience In the Adirondack Library Series presents
Bad Juliet, by Giles Blunt
Monday, February 2, 7 – 8 pm, virtual, free
At a tuberculosis sanitarium in the Adirondacks, a young tutor falls in love with a mysterious woman who survived the Lusitania disaster.

Recently jilted by his fiancé, Paul Gascoyne takes a job as a tutor to the patients at the Trudeau Sanitarium in upstate New York. There, in the icebound beauty of the Adirondack Mountains, he finds himself drawn to Sarah Ballard, a beautiful but enigmatic young woman, traumatized by her past aboard the ill-fated ship Lusitania. To rouse her out of her gloom, Paul encourages her to write a memoir.
As Paul reads her words, it gradually becomes clear that Sarah’s memories are a tangle of truth and fiction that he can’t begin to unravel. And yet he cannot overcome his attraction to her. When a terrible relapse leaves Sarah worried that she has little time left, she begs Paul to be the one person in the world who will truly know her.
Giles Blunt grew up in North Bay, Ontario, before studying English Literature at the University of Toronto. The author of twelve novels, including the award-winning John Cardinal Mystery series, Blunt has more recently turned to literary fiction with Bad Juliet. He lives in Toronto.

Seagle Festival Partners with Regional Libraries for Free From Page to Stage Education Series
Seagle Festival, the Adirondack Region’s only opera and musical theater producing organization, and the oldest and one of the most distinguished summer vocal training programs in the U.S., is pleased to announce a new regional partnership with the Schroon Lake Library, Westport Library, and the Caldwell-Lake George Library to launch From Page to Stage, a free lecture series for all learners.

The series, hosted by Seagle Festival’s Education & Community Engagement Director Josh Cook, will offer the public an exclusive, in-depth look at the Festival’s four mainstage productions for the 2026 summer season. Each free, 60-minute session will explore the literary, historical, and musical foundations of the work, providing a “page-to-stage” approach that demystifies opera and musical theater.
The “From Page to Stage” series runs monthly from February through May. Each month features a different production: February is Così fan tutte, March is H.M.S. Pinafore, April is Dead Man Walking, and May is The Sound of Music.
The schedule remains consistent for all four months:
- Schroon Lake Library: The First Tuesday of the month at 1 pm.
- Westport Library: The First Tuesday of the month at 7 pm.
- Caldwell-Lake George Library: The First Wednesday of the month at 6:30 pm.
