The Mill celebrates the installation of a new 40’ site specific sculpture by renowned artist Stephen Hendee

The Mill will host a public reception on March 19 from 5-7pm to celebrate the reveal of a newly commissioned wall work. The forty foot sculpture will span the entry passage to The Mill’s speakeasy, The Knock.

Gold Linear Beam is a site specific sculptural installation comprised of 10 modules coated in reflective gold laser cut cast acrylic. The smooth mirror-like finish is interrupted with geometric faceted insets, refracting light and objects nearby. Located in proximity to Hendee’s 2024 illuminated light sculpture, Buisine, visitors are invited to delve deeper into the artist’s world.

Stephen Hendee (b. 1968, California, USA) is an innovative sculptor renowned for creating large-scale installations that challenge traditional notions of space and form. Drawing inspiration from the world of digital culture, he is widely regarded as a pioneer of the low-poly aesthetic. Through his work, he translates the vectorized properties of digital design into physical materials, creating real-world simulations of virtual reality spaces.

Hendee’s work challenges viewers to consider the relationship between virtual and physical spaces, and how they intersect with our perceptions of reality. His installations are visually stunning and conceptually complex, inviting audiences to explore and engage with the dynamic worlds he creates.

A reveal of the artwork and reception for the artist will be held on Thursday, March 19th from 5 – 7 pm. Please RSVP HERE.

Georgia O’Keeffe at Lake George: Painted Subjects, Social Relations, and Reflections on Selfhood

Wednesday, March 18, 2026, 7 – 8 pm, virtual, free

How might we account for the creative outpouring that marked Georgia O’Keeffe’s years at Lake George, an interval that stands among the most prolific of her seven-decade career? A survey of her work from this period reveals an astonishing abundance: roughly two hundred paintings on canvas and paper, accompanied by numerous sketches and pastels.

Lake George functioned for O’Keeffe as a potent site of artistic stimulus. Many of the botanical subjects that would come to define her oeuvre first took shape in this site. As a retreat from New York City, it afforded not only sustained contact with the natural world but a deep sense of place, an anchoring essential to her developing modernist vision. Yet it was not solely a refuge; Lake George also operated as a social nexus, animated by a continuous circulation of visitors.

Within this multifaceted setting, O’Keeffe pursued new subjects while reckoning more deliberately with thoughts of selfhood and artistic independence, including the imagined prospect of a studio of her own. This presentation examines the forces that shaped her Lake George years: her evolving subjects, the shifting social dynamics around her, and the ways in which the site itself nourished her creative practice.

Yaritza Martinez Pule joined the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum in 2022 as Curatorial Assistant after completing a Fulbright research grant. Previously, she was a curatorial research fellow at Museo Franz Mayer in Mexico City and a curatorial assistant at 80WSE Gallery, a gallery affiliated with New York University where she co-curated and organized exhibitions with the Institute of Fine Arts, the Costume Institute, and Steinhardt’s Department of Art.

Show & Tell

Wednesday, March 18, 6 – 8 pm

Artists and makers of all kinds are invited to show and tell with the rest of the group in a quick 5-10 minute talk where they will have the chance to share their work with the group and answer questions. Once everyone has had their chance to speak, everyone is encouraged to mingle and share more about themselves and their work. There will be a table set up for people to display some of their work for the group to observe as the artist speaks.

The event is meant to be informal and casual, and it is meant to give people the opportunity to showcase their artwork in a fun and exciting way! Another key aspect of this event is to hopefully inspire people by being around other artists and the artwork that is in the gallery.
