Storytime at the Museum
Tuesday, April 7, 1 pm
Inspired by a true story, Elisa Carbone writes about young Diana Hopkins as she helps plant a Victory Garden on the White House lawn during World War II. It’s a tale of determination, teamwork, and the power of growing something meaningful, even in challenging times.
After the reading, participants can help the Museum bring our new pollinator garden to life with color and kindness! Paint a rock with a positive message, vibrant colors, or fun designs. Once it’s dry, we’ll place it in the garden for everyone to enjoy. Your artwork will help brighten the space for both people and pollinators alike!

The Adirondack Experience in the Adirondack Library Series presents
First Adirondackers, by Curt Stager and David Kanietakeron Fadden
Monday, April 6, 2026, 7 – 8 pm, virtual, free, registration required

The First Adirondackers reaches far beyond the familiar timelines of settlement to tell a deeper story of the Adirondacks—one that has been shaped by an Indigenous presence for more than 12,000 years. Blending scientific insight with Indigenous knowledge and storytelling, the book reveals how Native peoples lived with, learned from, and stewarded this landscape across countless generations. Through changing climates, waterways, and lifeways, authors Curt Stager and David Kanietakeron Fadden illuminate a history that has too often been overlooked or simplified.
The Adirondacks emerge not as an untouched wilderness, but as a homeland rich with memory, meaning, and continuity. The First Adriondackers invites readers to reconsider what they think they know about the region and the enduring relationship between people and place.

Teddy Roosevelt biographer Paul Grondahl will discuss the dramatic hours when Roosevelt climbed Mount Marcy, learned that President William McKinley had died of an assassin’s wounds, a daring midnight wagon ride to the North Creek train station, and his swearing-in as the 26th President of the United States in Buffalo on September 14, 1901. Grondahl’s talk will clarify one lingering mystery about Roosevelt’s long delay at the Tahawus Club before he set out for North Creek.
