The Old Forge Library presents
Upstate New York in Paintings by Robert Coppen
Friday, May 15 – Saturday, June 20
OPening reception Friday, May 15,
5 – 7 pm
This exhibit showcases a diverse collection of Robert Coppen’s work across multiple media, including acrylics, watercolors, pastels, and mixed media. Each piece reflects his deep appreciation for the natural world and his dedication to capturing the beauty and character of the region he calls home.
A self-taught artist, Coppen draws inspiration from a lifelong connection to the outdoors. Raised in Central New York, he developed an early love of nature while exploring the landscape with his father, an influence that continues to shape his artistic vision. He describes himself as a “landscape hunter,” seeking out compelling natural scenes and immersing himself in their details rather than focusing on traditional subjects. As he puts it, “You paint what you love, and I love the natural world around me.”
Through his work, Coppen hopes to inspire viewers to connect more deeply with nature, encouraging exploration, appreciation, and preservation of these landscapes for future generations. All are invited on Friday, May 15, from 5 -7 pm for a free public reception featuring light refreshments, an opportunity to view the artwork, and a chance to meet the artist.
Coppen’s full portfolio is available HERE.

Upper Jay Art Center presents
The Exterminating Poet
Theatre/Puppetry
Thursday, May 14, 2026, 7 pm
Join guest artist Vinny Mraz for this work-in-progress sharing as the culmination of a New Work in the North Country residency at the Lounge where he is continuing development of his solo performance, The Exterminating Poet.
Jack manages the office of an exterminator. Although surrounded by reminders of mortality (including his own) he searches for beauty in a world driven by longing and greed. He writes his poems and stares out the window of his car in the Lincoln Tunnel looking for some kind of light.
The Exterminating Poet is an assemblage of the poems of Jack Wiler. The poems, a collage of work from later in his career, reflect his imminent death as well as the hope to find love, meaning and truth in an otherwise materialistic world. Inspired by Spalding Gray and incorporating puppetry, pastiche and a reimagining of Jack’s work, The Exterminating Poet is a solo performance and a collaboration between two artists who never met but are connected through a desire to wrestle with the promises of a bitter and beautiful world.
