Join us for an open-ended, hands-on letterpress workshop with multidisciplinary artist Ben Aleshire. Ben will demonstrate the fundamentals of the press—how it operates, how to set it up, and how to print—while participants get a close look at working with both metal and wood type from our cases.

Our summer exhibition explores Benjamin Franklin and a lesser-known chapter of the Revolution: his 1776 journey to Montreal to rally support for the American cause. Along the way, Franklin passed through the upper Hudson Valley, including an overnight stay in present-day Glens Falls. By tracing this journey, the exhibition connects our region to a pivotal national moment and reflects on how the ideals of 1776 still shape the nation today.

Celebrate with free admission to the Museum, plus light refreshments, family crafts, colonial lawn games (weather permitting), and a special Storytime at 11:30 a.m. featuring Benjamin Franklin Was Here, 1776, the Chapman Museum’s newest book starring Zopher the Mouse.

Benjamin Franklin himself will also be on hand for a meet-and-greet from 11 am to 1 pm.

Chapman Museum, 348 Glen Street, Glens Falls

Historic Saranac Lake presents

Sanatorium: Inside the Architectural Cure for Tuberculosis

May and June

This special exhibit features a selection of photographs by John Lazzaro from his upcoming book, Sanatorium: Inside the Architectural Cure for Tuberculosis.

Lazzaro’s photographic survey documents the contemporary remnants of over 25 former tuberculosis hospitals across the United States—including the historic Trudeau Sanatorium in Saranac Lake.

The exhibit, featuring 10–15 of Lazzaro’s stunning images alongside artifacts from the HSL collection, explores the vital role sanatoria architecture played in treating tuberculosis before the discovery of antibiotics. It is a look at the visionary buildings constructed during America’s first modern public health crisis, examining the structures that remain—some abandoned, some decaying, and others repurposed.
