Caroga Arts Collective Awarded $5,221,000 by the New York State Council on the Arts
The funds will support the organization’s completion of the amphitheater at the former Sherman’s Amusement Park. This grant is part of a capital project funding announcement by NYSCA, which totals over $82 million to 132 arts and culture facilities across New York State.
“This grant is the realization of something we have been working toward for a very long time,” said Kyle Barrett Price, Founder, Executive and Artistic Director of Caroga Arts Collective. “The enhanced sound, lighting, and visuals will provide a world-class audience and artist experience, along with the seating and audience wing will bring the full amphitheater to life. The belief in New York State and in our community will help this become reality and allow continue the great tradition and legacy of Sherman’s to continue under Caroga Arts care. We are profoundly grateful to NYSCA and Governor Hochul for recognizing what the arts mean to this region — and for helping us build something that will serve the Southern Adirondacks for generations to come.”

Adirondack Architectural Heritage (AARCH) announces
Adirondack Architectural Salvage opening
Friday-Monday, June 19-22, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm
Adirondack Architectural Heritage (AARCH) announces the opening weekend of their new warehouse, Adirondack Architectural Salvage. Stop by on the opening weekend to check out the space and take some treasures home!
The warehouse accepts donations of quality building materials, from windows and bathtubs to doorknobs and light fixtures, which they will sell at affordable prices. In addition to supporting the appreciation, care, and continued use of historic buildings, this initiative keeps building materials out of our region’s increasingly crowded landfills. It’s also a great way to bring pieces with character and history into your home!
Following opening weekend, the warehouse will be open 10:00 am – 3:00 pm, Mondays and Fridays and the third Saturday and Sunday of the month. AARCH will continue accepting donations of building materials in good, reusable condition and is currently seeking volunteers to help at the warehouse. Contact Christine at salvage@aarch.org or visit HERE to learn more and follow @adkarchsalvage on Facebook to stay in the know.

The Sembrich presents
A Cause for Singing
Thru Monday, October 12, 2026
A Cause for Singing celebrates four extraordinary opera singers who used their fame—and their voices—to champion causes that mattered deeply to them and to the world.
- Marcella Sembrich (1858–1935), who turned her concert stage into a stage for humanity, raising thousands of dollars for WWI relief.
- Lillian Nordica (1857–1914), who lent her voice to the suffrage movement and the fight for women’s right to vote.
- Marian Anderson (1897–1993), whose incredible voice became a beacon of hope and a symbol of equality throughout the Civil Rights Movement.
- Ululani Robertson (1890–1970), the first Hawaiian woman to achieve international fame in opera—and a fierce, lifelong champion of Hawaiian culture and equal rights.
Alongside their remarkable stories, the exhibition showcases extraordinary objects that bring their legacies to life.
A Cause for Singing is a reminder that art and activism have always walked hand in hand—and that the most powerful instrument for change has always been the human voice.

Barbecue and Blues: A Community Celebration, Thursday, June 18 4 pm
The Old Forge Library will host its second annual Juneteenth celebration this June, continuing a growing community tradition centered on history, food, music, and connection.
In 2024, the library organized the first Juneteenth celebration in the West Central Adirondack region. Nearly 90 people gathered to share a traditional barbecue meal, learn about the history of the holiday, and celebrate together. For many attendees, it was their first opportunity to participate in a Juneteenth event.

Many Face of Freedom: A Juneteenth Look at Revolutionary America
Wednesday, June 17, 2026, 6:30 – 8 pm
Hosted by Elizabethtown Social Center i, we invite residents and visitors to reflect on the meaning of freedom in America—past, present, and future.
The panel consists of a group of community members who came together – inspired by the ideals of the Declaration of Independence and the celebration of Juneteenth – to explore how the ideals of liberty have shaped the nation while also recognizing the struggles and contradictions that accompanied those ideals.
The Social Center will offer a simultaneous children’s cooking class, where kids prepare Juneteenth snacks and serve them to the audience (so parents can attend the discussion!).
