Downtown Artist Cellar (DAC) presents

Summer Exhibitions at Downtown Artist Cellar

In the Beginning Was Unknown, Kailey Maher

Friday, July 3 – Saturday, August 15

Opening reception Friday, July 10, 5 – 7 pm

For In the Beginning Was Unknown, Maher transforms the Main Gallery into an environment where stone, fiber, ceramic, image, and shadow exist in quiet conversation. Materials move between weight and lift, grounding and release, erosion and emergence. Rather than presenting a series of individual works, the exhibition invites visitors to move through the space, allowing relationships between material, light, and form to unfold over time.

Bubbles and Deep Thoughts: Works on Paper by Susan Greenspan

Friday, July 3 – Saturday, August 15

Opening reception Friday, August 7, 5 – 7 pm

Greenspan’s abstract works begin with old family photographs and the hidden digital marks created while restoring them. By transforming those invisible corrections into vibrant compositions, she explores memory, identity, and the quiet histories that remain beneath the surface.

Everything You Touch is Made of Earth, Caro Worley

Month of July

Opening reception Friday, July 10, 5 – 7 pm

Caro Worley considers her works of art as an act of co-creation with Earth. She often finds herself near to or under the ground. Caro said, “I can be found crawling around a bog on hands and knees to photograph a flower, or waist deep in a river, searching for clay deposits. This intimacy with nature, or ‘skin on skin’, has always felt like home.” She has lived in the Adirondacks for the last 5 years, feeling very lucky to be in relation with the land. She is happy to be a member of NorthWind.

Adirondack Sky Center & Observatory presents

Observing the Universe with Gravitational Waves

Presented by Professor Ken Olum

Saturday, July 11, 2026,  7 pm

Gravitational waves are ripples in spacetime emitted by massive objects in rapid motion.  Since 2015 we have  observed gravitational waves oscillating many times per second coming from black holes and neutron stars orbiting and merging with each other.  Now we also have strong evidence for a background of gravitational waves that take

years to oscillate.  It might come from pairs of black holes billions of times more massive than the sun, or from exotic sources in the very early universe.  Professor Olum will discuss both kinds of gravitational waves, how we observe them, and what we learn from them.

This is an outdoor presentation at the Observatory, 178 Big Wolf Rd, with stargazing after. If weather is uncooperative the program will take place at the Astronomy Hub, 68 Park St.
