North Creek Depot Museum presents
125th Anniversary of Theodore Roosevelt’s “Night Ride to the Presidency”
We are delighted to open our doors for another exciting season of exhibits, programs, and special events celebrating the rich history of our region. This season promises to be one of our most memorable as we commemorate the 125th Anniversary of Theodore Roosevelt’s “Night Ride to the Presidency.”
To mark this historic milestone, we are proud to unveil our newly redesigned Theodore Roosevelt Gallery, which serves as the centerpiece of this year’s anniversary celebration. The gallery explores the dramatic events of September 1901, when then-Vice President Theodore Roosevelt received word while hiking on Mount Marcy that President William McKinley was gravely ill in Buffalo. Roosevelt’s harrowing night ride to the North Creek Depot in the early morning hours of September 14th, followed by his train journey to Buffalo, marked the beginning of one of the most significant chapters in American history.
Through historic photographs, maps and interpretive displays, visitors will discover the remarkable story of Roosevelt’s “Night Ride” and the pivotal role North Creek played in his unexpected ascent to the presidency.
Throughout the summer, we will present a wide variety of lectures, exhibitions, community events, and educational programs that further explore Roosevelt’s remarkable journey to the presidency and his enduring connection to the Adirondacks.

The Mill presents
Taylor Haskins
Saturday, July 11, 8 pm
It was Taylor who stood in the carcass of a former grain mill with a trumpet night after night to hone in on the acoustic treatments that make The Mill an exceptional listening space. It is his vision that transformed an abandoned agricultural facility into a place for the emergence and growth of culture in rural New York.
First and foremost a musician, Taylor has toured the world since the age of 19, performing in over 40 countries and nearly 400 cities with the likes of Dave Holland, Richard Bona, Maynard Ferguson, and many others including his own eponymous band. For this evening, Taylor will take the stage to sonically transform the space and transport the audience into an immersive auditory experience.

Caroga Arts breaks ground on the Stagehouse at Sherman’s Park
A Vision Taking Shape

On a beautiful day filled with excitement and gratitude, Caroga Arts officially broke ground on the first phase of our new amphitheater (Stagehouse)—an important milestone in a vision that has been years in the making.
More than just a construction project, this phase represents the next chapter in our ongoing effort to create a world-class arts and community campus in Caroga Lake. This investment honors the rich cultural history of this special place while expanding opportunities for artistic excellence, education, and community gathering for generations to come.
As we stood together for the groundbreaking ceremony, we were reminded that projects of this magnitude are never accomplished by one person alone. They are built through the collective vision, generosity, and dedication of countless individuals who believe in the future of our community.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the donors, supporters, community partners, elected officials, volunteers, and friends who have helped make this moment possible. We are especially thankful to New York State Council on the Arts, Empire State Development, and everyone who joined us to celebrate this milestone and share in the excitement of what lies ahead.
While the ceremonial shovels have now touched the ground, this is only the beginning. The amphitheater is part of a larger vision for a vibrant campus where arts and community life can thrive together. We look forward to sharing updates as construction progresses and welcoming you back to witness this exciting transformation firsthand.
Together, we are building more than an amphitheater—we are building a legacy that will enrich the Caroga community for generations to come.

Old Forge Library’s Music in the Gazebo Series presents
Mad Agnes
Tuesday, July 14, 4 pm
Hailing from Connecticut, Mad Agnes features Margo Hennebach, Adrienne Jones, and Mark Saunders. Their music blends contemporary folk with touches of Celtic tradition, storytelling, vocal improvisation, and rich acoustic instrumentation. Performing around a single microphone in the style of early radio shows, the trio creates an intimate, engaging atmosphere that quickly draws audiences in. Their performances are filled with warmth, humor, spontaneity, and the kind of musical chemistry that can only come from years of performing together.
With guitars, mandolin, ukulele, piano, melodica, and tightly woven three-part harmonies, Mad Agnes delivers a concert experience that feels both polished and personal. The group has performed internationally at festivals, theaters, listening rooms, and folk venues throughout the United States and England, earning praise for performances that are both emotionally moving and genuinely fun.
