Warren County Historical Society presents

The American Revolution: What They Didn’t Tell You in High School, with historian and author Glenn Pearsall

Monday, July 20, 7 pm. Doors open at 6:30. Free.

Glenn will pull back the curtain on some of the Revolution’s lesser-known facts, figures, and turning points—guiding his audience toward a broader, more accurate understanding of the real causes and impacts of America’s war for independence. Expect to leave with a few surprises, a fresh perspective, and maybe a new favorite chapter of history.

Glenn Pearsall is no stranger to uncovering the stories hiding in plain sight. A Johnsburg native and author of three acclaimed books on Adirondack history—Echoes in These Mountains (2008), When Men and Mountains Meet (2013), and Leaves Torn Asunder (2016)—Glenn has spent decades bringing forgotten corners of our region’s past back to life. His research on Civil War photographer Mathew Brady’s boyhood home drew coverage from the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post.

This is the kind of evening that reminds us why history matters—and why it’s never quite what we think we know.

Why History Matters: 1776, Independence, and Valcour Island

Wednesday, July 22,

7 – 8:30 pm

From Concord’s North Bridge, to Philadelphia’s Independence Hall, to Valcour Island in our own backyard, this stirring presentation will share the stories of some of the remarkable figures that changed the history of the world. By seeing how earlier Americans have lived and struggled in their daily lives, we can recognize them as people like us and gain a pride of place and an increased appreciation of our society and our heritage.

John Krueger is a long-time heritage advocate, having started as a guide at Fort Ticonderoga in 1970. He is a prolific writer & gifted storyteller whose animated talks have sparked a deeper appreciation for the Lake Champlain Basin region’s cultural heritage.

A New North Creek Arts District

A coalition of arts organizations, businesses, and individual artists has launched the North Creek Arts District in the Town of Johnsburg, earning official recognition from the Town Board on June 3. The board approved a resolution supporting the community-led initiative for its contributions to the town’s cultural, economic, and civic vitality.

The Town of Johnsburg Occupancy Tax Committee also awarded funding for a district logo and promotion of its inaugural event, the North Creek Arts Fest, on Aug. 8. The festival will span Main Street and Riverfront Park with artist booths, live music, performances, food, family activities, demonstrations, and exhibits.

The district stretches from Tannery Pond Center to the North Creek Depot Museum and Adirondack Glassblowing Studio. Tannery Pond Center will serve as the group’s fiscal agent during its first year as it works toward nonprofit status.

Organizers hope the district will eventually include artists, businesses, and nonprofits from all six Johnsburg hamlets, strengthening the local economy and enhancing quality of life for residents and visitors through the arts.
