Savor the Day: Paintings of Lake George and Beyond

Wendy Soliday, Artist, July 13-30

A love of Lake George and a passion for painting are brought together in this upcoming exhibit by Wendy Soliday.

An opening reception to meet the artist will be held from 5-7 on Friday, July 15th. Proceeds from sales from this exhibit will be used to support the Lake George Association in their work in protecting the lake’s clean water.

In her effort to support the continuing good work of the Lake George Association, Soliday will also offer information and educational materials about the ways one can be involved in the LGA’s efforts to protect the Lake.

Wendy Soliday, an artist well known in the Lake George and Silver Bay communities, is a contemporary classical painter. She works primarily in pastels and oils, although she is frequently seen using watercolors at the lake. It was watching her grandmother at the lake in the 1950’s paint with Adele Hepron that first introduced Wendy to watercolors. Her sister, Trisha Haulenbeek, who assisted Ruth Strickling at Silver Bay’s watercolor classes, also inspired her. However, it was not until 2001 that Wendy began to seriously paint and exhibit her work in galleries and shows. She has exhibited nationally in such places as the National Arts Club in New York, the Boston Library, and the Governor’s Office in Montpelier, Vt. She has won numerous awards, hosted many solo exhibits throughout New England, and teaches painting and drawing in her home state Vermont.

This exhibit, “Savor the Day,” is her third exhibit in the Lake George area in which her aim is to heighten the public’s awareness of the need to protect this precious, and vulnerable resource. Her paintings celebrate the outstanding beauty of Lake George. She writes, “The world is too stunning not to paint. While I am painting, I often feel like I am bursting.”
