2024 Winter Lecture Series-Program Two: NYS Ranger History in the Forest Preserve and Search & Rescue Stories

The Lake Placid-North Elba Historical Society is pleased to announce the second program in the 2024 Winter Lecture Series: NYS Ranger History in the Forest Preserve and Search & Rescue Stories Along the Way, presented by Kevin Burns, Captain of the NYS DEC Forest Rangers for District 5. The program, which will include a slide presentation by Burns, will be held at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts auditorium on Thursday, February 15th at 7:00 pm. The program will be recorded and can also be viewed on YouTube after February 15th at https://www.youtube.com/@DigitalMedia-LPNEHS on the Society’s new YouTube channel.

Burns began his career in 1988 as an assistant seasonal ranger and in 1990 moved into being the backcountry winter caretaker at Lake Colden in the Adirondack High Peaks. In 1999 Kevin attended the NYS Forest Ranger Academy and upon graduation he spent a year as a ranger in Long Island and a year in the Albany area. In 2002, Kevin came “home” to the High Peaks and has been working as a NYS Ranger here ever since.
