Art Thief is bringing the party to UJAC! One could describe Art Thief as Sci-fi/Acid funk. Or perhaps, “If Jaco was Randy Newman”, sprinkled with the B52’s and Led Zeppelin. Approaching music with a mindset that opposites attract, Art Thief’s hard hitting punk rock energy gently caresses the boundaries jazz and popular music. The Brooklyn based the band has released two records, including the 2019 EP “Falling With Style” and the 2021 album “Tough Crowd”, which Bass Magazine describes as having “lyrics that are part Claypool, part science fiction, harmonies layered with color, and a James Brown enthusiasm”.
In 2022, Art Thief toured the US, opening for Thank You Scientist and Strawberry Girls. As they continue to tour and work on their second full-length album, the band consistently strives to challenge themselves and push boundaries. Artist Ron English sums up Art Thief’s sound perfectly, saying, “It’s like a great stunt pilot is flying the plane. Art Thief has that rarest of things in art, a unique voice.”
