Free, Hands-On Zine-Making Workshops
February 26, 2022 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
FreeThe Adirondack Center for Writing will partner with The Link Arts Center (Plattsburgh) to offer two free classes: one for kids (ages 8-12) and one for teens (ages 13-17).
My First Fanzine
2/26 | 10 am – 12 pm | Ages 8 – 12
A fanzine (fan + zine) is a zine created to celebrate a particular cultural phenomenon (think of your favorite show, musician, video game, meme, etc.) and share with other fans. Students will create their own zine and make enough copies to share with their family and friends.
Teen Zine
2/26 | 1 pm – 3 pm | Ages 13 – 17
Express yourself! Through collage, drawing, and juxtaposing images with text, students will learn to make their own small circulation, self-published, zines (short for fanzine or magazine).
These workshops focus on designing, creating, and printing zines.
What is a zine? It’s a small, unique, hand-made publication, perfect for teaching young artists/writers about design, self-expression, and publishing. The zine-maker is in control of every step of the production process, from idea-generation to printing and distribution–that’s empowerment through art! Students interested in writing, illustration, collage, book-making, print-making, yearbook, or graphic design will find themselves at home in these workshops.
