Juneteenth Celebration and Gospel Workshop!

June 19 @ 4:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Everyone is welcome at this joyful Juneteenth celebration! At 7pm, come hear the rousing and spirited Plattsburgh State Gospel Choir directed by Dr. Dexter Criss.

Plus a rare chance to sing along at a GOSPEL WORKSHOP led by Dr. Criss – all singing abilities welcome. From 5:30 – 6:30, he will rehearse one song with community members, who will have the opportunity to perform the song in the concert alongside the choir.

The celebration starts at 4:30pm for a BBQ, Mocktails, lawn games and book raffles for all ages.

Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 that the enslaved African Americans of Galveston, TX, were freed – nearly two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. The next year, the people of Galveston commemorated that day as Juneteenth, a celebration of freedom. Since then, it’s been observed in communities and states as a holiday, but officially recognized as a federal holiday in 2021.

Adirondack Writer and Performer Sandra Weber will introduce the Plattsburgh State Gospel Choir and give a short history of Juneteenth.

The event is free with a suggested donation of $8 for dinner. BYO Picnic blankets or folding chairs. Indoors in the event of rain.
