Lawn Concert – The Storycrafters & Meadowmount School of Music
July 7 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Free
JULY CONCERTS ON THE CENTER LAWN – It’s officially lawn concert time at the Elizabethtown Social Center and we have a wonderful line up of fantastic performances this July. Since 2015, our FREE lawn concerts have been an annual tradition in Elizabethtown on Tuesdays in July. The concerts are a great way to enjoy a night out with the kids. Special performances for kids start at 6pm followed by bands for grown-ups at 7pm.
Tuesday, July 7th – We welcome the multiple award-winning duo, The Storycrafters. Barry Marshall, and Jeri Burns PhD have been working together as The Storycrafters since 1991. In addition to being internationally renowned storytellers, they are authors, award-winning radio show hosts, recording artists, adjunct college faculty, communications coaches, and Public Radio essayists.
They perform and teach their art form in schools, libraries, and other venues all over the US, Caribbean, and the British Isles. With a natural, energetic style, they have been featured performers at storytelling and folk festivals nationally and internationally. Jeri and Barry believe in the time-tested wisdom of traditional stories and fairy tales, and share that wisdom with today’s audiences. They strive to honor world cultures by telling the old stories in respectful ways, often integrating the musical instruments, songs or dances indigenous to that region. They are also well-known for original modern renditions of the oldest stories, using styles such as spoonerism, rap and balladry generously sprinkled with a dose of rollicking fun, poignancy and pizzazz… some of their most requested material. In addition to their work as performers, Jeri and Barry also hold positions as adjunct college faculty (SUNY New Paltz, Southern CT State University), therapeutic storytellers (Stamford CT Hospital psychiatric unit), and trainers of public defenders (New York State Defenders’ Institute, Troy NY).
At 7pm, talented students from Meadowmount School of Music bring high-level classical music to the Social Center. Meadowmount’s concert will be held indoors, with A/C.
Think of us when you want to get out, meet people and enjoy the arts without breaking the bank. It’s easy to forget how great it is to be part of a “village” – to see old friends and make new ones.
We extend a HUGE thank you to the J.M. McDonald Foundation, NYSCA, Essex County Arts Council and the Town of Elizabethtown for their grants, which make our lawn concerts possible!
Our concerts are held outside in our courtyard weather permitting. Please bring blankets & lawn chairs to enjoy. If the weather doesn’t cooperate we will be inside with A/C.
We hope to see you at the Center for our On the Lawn Concert series!
