The Art + Science of A Warbler’s Journey
February 7, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
The Adirondack Land Trust is hosting The Art + Science of _A Warbler’s Journey_ featuring Pulitzer-Prize finalist, renowned ornithologist and author Scott Weidensaul and award-winning illustrator Nancy Lane.
In their children’s book _A Warbler’s Journey_, Weidensaul’s story of a tiny warbler’s migration from the tropics of Central America to the Canadian tundra is brought to life through Lane’s oil paintings. They will provide an insider’s view of the unique collaboration behind this book, which was included on NPR’s 2022 “Books We Love” list.
Yellow warblers are among the migratory birds that spend summers in the Adirondacks. The phonetic sound and cadence of their distinctive song, often emanating from streamside alder thickets, is described as “sweet-sweet-I’m-so-sweet.” They eat caterpillars and other insects and make their nest in the vertical fork of a shrub or small tree.
Everyone with an interest in birds, natural habitats and the creative process of book collaboration is welcome to join. Online registration is available HERE, and navigating to “Events and Field Trips” under “Get Involved.”
The book is available for purchase at the Bookstore Plus in Lake Placid HERE as well as other local bookstores.
