As the summer winds down and the Adirondack & Lake Champlain region prepares for autumn, the Adirondack Art Association (AAA) is pleased to announce its final “Featured Artist” spotlight exhibition of the 2026 season, highlighting AAA Artist Member and Peru, NY-based fine artist — contemporary local painter Lynda Mussen!

This curated show will open on Friday, August 28th, offering visitors, community members, art patrons, and art lovers one last AAA reception before the season closes: stop by to experience Mussen’s evocative interpretations of the region’s natural beauty and quiet, everyday moments through a beautifully curated collection of fine art and oil paintings that will be on display.

This AAA Main Gallery showcase will feature Lynda Mussen’s compelling, vibrant works that aim to capture fleeting moments in time. Using a variety of mediums — including photography, graphite, oil paint, and watercolor — Mussen creates poignant visuals that leave a lasting impression and wonderfully represent the beauty (big and small) of the Adorindack region. Much of her work begins en plein air (outdoors), sparking ideas which carry over into her studio practice. Ranging from expansive Adirondack vistas and pastoral landscapes to rural architecture and intimate still lifes, her paintings reflect a deep appreciation for how light and shadow transform a subject in compelling ways with her painting and drawing techniques.

“I am a visual artist specializing in landscape painting. I have been practicing my craft in earnest for a decade since I retired from public school teaching and relocated to the Adirondack Region of New York,” Mussen shares. “Nature is my inspiration for painting,” reflects Lynda on her artistic process. “I like to think I capture moments in time… when the light hits a subject in a compelling way. Whether an expansive vista, a person, or a flower, I seek to express what I see in terms of light and shadow, inviting the viewer to spend some time with the scene and feel its emotion.”

After moving from Long Island to the beautiful North Country — a natural move given her husband Alan’s deep family roots in Keeseville and AuSable Forks, as well as a family camp on Fern Lake — she honed her craft taking drawing and painting classes at SUNY Plattsburgh. Today, she is an active member of numerous arts organizations and galleries across Clinton, Essex, and Franklin Counties, NY. She paints with the “13 Sundays Plein Air” group, Saranac Lake Artworks, the Strand Gallery in Plattsburgh, and is a proud Artist Member of the Adirondack Art Association.
